Every once in a while I get the brilliant idea to put something on this blog. Yet, I’m not a web developer (nor do I have aspirations to be one), so I get a little annoyed when trying to use tools like Hugo or having to deal with styling things to look nice. I usually find this process so clunky that I either redo the whole blog from scratch or I give up.
This time I’ve decided that I’m going to do this differently, I’m making a promise to myself here and now to stick with this iteration of the blog for a long while. I’m also going to make some changes to make that a bit easier for myself this time. Namely:
I’ve switched from Hugo to Quarto. Quarto is an R and python centric publishing system that is backed by Posit. Using quarto will make life a bit easier for me because it makes it easier to publish blogs that center around scientific topics. Also, I’ve found from personal experience that quarto has an emphasis on non-web developers like me so the tooling just works right out of the box.
I’m adding a recipes section to the blog now. I usually keep my recipes and cooking notes on pieces of paper just for reference, but I think putting them on the blog will motivate me to add things to the blog even when I don’t want to think about technical stuff after a long week at work.
Eventually, I’ll get the “Why Shy Voters Probably Aren’t A Thing To Worry About” blog post converted to here, but for now, take a look around and enjoy the new blog!
